Matthew’s sharp attention to detail and passion for his practice has fostered trust amongst his clients, solidifying his standing with those he works with in the South Auckland community. After starting his legal career at Rice Craig with a steadfast commitment to his growing client base he prides himself on providing pragmatic, relevant legal advice so clients can make an informed decision to achieve their desired outcome.

Matthew applies his acumen to commercial law, assisting with the buying or selling of businesses, drafting shareholders agreements or providing advice on questions such as the benefits of a personal guarantee in terms of trade. Accompanying his experience in commercial, Matthew practices in conveyancing and property law and enjoys working with first home buyers. He is known to be easy to work with and relatable – he understands the process can be scary, however clients can leverage off his uncompromising support and appreciate his accessibility to common questions such as, ‘Do I need a LIM report? What should my offer be conditional on, or can I use my Kiwi Saver?’

In addition to being well versed in property matters, Matthew is often engaged in assisting clients through the estate planning process and ensures their affairs are dealt with proficiently in a comprehensive and empathetic manner. Matthew applies these principles to setting up and restructuring trusts, doing wills and EPAs (Enduring Power of Attorney), working fastidiously and drawing on the wealth of expertise at Rice Craig to complement his work.

Matthew thrives on building strong client relationships and is dedicated and eager to continue developing his legal expertise and making a valuable contribution to the team. 

Background

Matthew grew up in South Auckland and attended a local high school before moving to Otago to complete his bachelor’s degrees. He thoroughly enjoyed his time in Otago however, Rice Craig presented an amazing opportunity to return to South Auckland to be around his family. Matthew is proud to work for a firm established in his local community and share in that 100-year legacy.

Outside interests

In his free time Matthew enjoys playing rugby and watching sport, travelling and spending time with family and friends.
